National Families Week is held each year between 15-21 May, celebrating the theme "Stronger Families, Stronger Communities". This initiative started in 2013 with Families Australia, a national not-for-profit organisation, running it to promote a national policy environment that is supportive of the needs and interests of families including marginalised families.
Families Week is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness on the important role families play in the community. Families are the basic building blocks of every community. Fairfield’s culturally diverse communities share one thing in common, the closeness of a family unit that comes together as one. The whole family values and supports every member. They cherish and nurture the children. They are available for support and encouragement, particularly during the hard times.
Fairfield City Council encourages local community organisations and groups to celebrate Families Week in different ways: invite local families for community afternoon tea or a barbeque, offer a parenting seminar, or host a storytelling event.
